The Carolina Thread Trail backbone
The Thread Trail is the connective ambition for the region — a multi-county effort to link greenways, blueways and preserved corridors across the Charlotte area. Around Lake Wylie, its completed segments follow the Catawba corridor and stitch through Gaston, Mecklenburg and York counties in pieces, with gaps that are gradually closing as easements and funding land. Because the network is built incrementally, a segment that dead-ends today may connect within a few years, which is worth knowing before dismissing a short piece of trail as a loop that goes nowhere.
